University of Bologna

The University of Bologna’s origins go way back, and it is considered to be the oldest university in the Western world. Its history is intertwined with that of the great names of science and literature, it is a keystone and a point of reference for European culture.

The University of Bologna is made up of 31 Departments and 5 Schools. There are also 7 Interdepartmental Research Centres and 12 interdepartmental research and/or training facilities. 98 libraries and facilities provide bibliographic and documentary services to support education as well as teaching, research, professional and cultural activities. The University Museum Network comprises 15 Museums and Collections dedicated to various disciplines.

In the Agriloop project, the University is leading the production of the Safe and Sustainable-by-Design guidance (SSbD), to develop an integrated flexible upscalable extraction process for proteins, polyesters and biochemicals with targeted structures/functionalities, to characterise extracts chemical, physical, biological properties. The objective is to build predictive data-driven models on structure / functionality relationships and data for optimal extraction design.

Moreover, they are participating and demonstrating in close to real environment the best innovative value chains developed. Specifically they’ll help to develop a portfolio of end-products for the farming sector based on bioproducts to validate sustainability performance and to assess the business models targeting an eco-industrial design.
