Authorised by the State Council, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs (MARA), the Institute of Food Science and Technology IFST-CAAS was founded in December 2003. Through 20 years’ development, the institute has built a solid foundation in the aspects of academic disciplines, research platforms, research teams, scientific projects, and international cooperation. IFST also has made a number of scientific achievements on agro-products processing industrial development. The institute has started to step into a new stage of fast development and comprehensively construction of a world-class institute.
As the only national research institute on the agro-products processing area, IFST takes the responsibility of solving the fundamental, directional and overall major scientific and technological issues, undertaking the tasks of basic and applied basic research, high-tech development, key technology research and major products creation. IFST focused on four disciplines: processing and storage, quality and safety, nutrition and health, intelligent manufacturing. Carrying out scientific and technological innovation, commercialisation of agricultural products, policy research, personnel training and international cooperation in the area of agro-products processing, leading the development of science and technology in this field, and providing strong support for industrial poverty alleviation and industrial revitalization.
IFST will be undertaking a number of activities for the Agriloop project, including:
- pre-treatment of potatoes and peanuts
- recovery of proteins/peptides for market applications
- PPO and carotenoid extraction
- physical and chemical characterisation of proteins/peptides
- MP production from soybean meal
- PHA production from sugars
- recovery of pectin from pomace
- recording of communication and dissemination activities in China
- delivery of good practice and policy recommendations
- strategic steering of Agriloop project
- scientific coordination and project monitoring

Dr. Aimin Shi
Based in Beijin – China
Dr. Shi has been engaged in food macromolecular colloid science and technology research for a long time, and has made innovative achievements in the fields of plant protein modification, plant protein-based Pickering emulsion construction, controlled release and delivery of active ingredients. He has presided over or participated in more than 10 national and provincial projects such as the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the sub-project of the National Key Research and Development Program of the 13th Five-Year Plan, the “948” project of the Ministry of Agriculture, the China-Israel International Cooperation Project, and the general project of the China Postdoctoral Science Foundation.
